Welcome to Hartland Sugar Gliders
Hello,

My name is Cathy Hart. And this a good start to getting the correct kind of information for a suger glider.

Don't be tricked or fooled into thinking gliders are easy animals to take care of. Gliders are also expensive. Read caution below please.

You can reach me at cathyhart2texas@yahoo.com

Beware of the many” so called”  Sugar Glider Review Websites and certain  Associations linked to these same websites that are  claiming to be a Review Website. Usually, a good business person would not need to make other websites look bad, (if that business person was doing right by their customers). If you click on their “contact us” link,   and get a message that you unable to contact them due to  spam, “Beware” .

If you see any, of this type of business on a website, more than likely, it is not good. Be careful of fancy , cute ,websites, that look like it may be too good to be true. More than likely, it is too good to be true. A good sugar glider breeder or dealer will want to ask you some questions , if they really care about the actual animal, not the almighty dollar. Beware of Websites claiming they will see you at the fair, trading village, or flea market, BEWARE!!! Many of these joeys are sold way too young, sickly, and/or die soon.

BEWARE OF WEBSITES THAT:

*Bash businesses that sell gliders on the internet. Saying they are not licensed, and can’t be trusted.

*Bash message boards such as glidercentral.net, saying they can hurt you,  only because they speak the truth, and have to help people, that have purchased gliders from sellers that sell their gliders at too young of age,  sickly and/or die.

*Bash Message Boards, saying they are unlicensed and give outdated information. Message boards are not required to be licensed. Message boards have the most recent updated information .

BEWARE :
*of websites that, constantly repeats how bad message boards are and not having a license.

* TRUTH: You do not need a license to have a message board, nor, do you need a license to sell items for gliders on the internet.

*TRUTH: You do need a USDA license to sell sugar gliders ( not Bears ) , If you have 4 or more breeding females.

TRUTH: Glider Central can’t be all bad if Bourbon herself uses the forum. Many highly recognized breeders use GliderCentral.com. And you are able to get good information. You do not need a license to be a good glider owner, and wish to share what you know.

TRUTH: Gliders are time consuming, and expensive, to keep your glider healthy and happy.  It costs more than 4 to 10 dollars a month to feed a glider. Have you priced fruits and veggies lately?

TRUTH: Gliders do not eat hard food in wild, why would you give only pelleted food? Check out Australian Zoos glider diets, then tell me, you are going to give pelleted food . Pelleted food is meant to be in cage for back up, in case they want it. BML diet, HPW diet, Reeps, and many modified types are highly recommended.

TRUTH: Sugar Gliders are insectivores, meaning they eat bugs. Ask any vet.

TRUTH: Male gliders mark their territory. Odors in the gliders cage is not due to outdated diet.  I have not noted a strong odor with any of my 10 gliders, but, I keep my cages clean.

TRUTH: You can’t de-poop/pee a glider. They go when they need to. Of course they go when they wake up, but, also when they’re out of the cage. I personally do not mind the poop and pee, and it is easily cleaned up.

TRUTH:  Sugar gliders are exotic pets.  The dictionary states EXOTIC defined as strikingly different, unusual ,often very colorful and exciting, coming from distant countries. Introduced from another place or region( an exotic species)  There is no such thing as a domestic pocket pet.

TRUTH: Just riding around in a pouch does not take the place of bonding time, I have never read anywhere , that it takes 10 -12 hours . I have seen 3-4 hours for one glider, and 1-2 hours with a pair. Sometimes it take s longer. Each sugar glider has it’s own personality.

TRUTH: Sugar Gliders are aboreal, which means they live in trees, and glide from branch to branch . How can they glide in 2 ft space? Cages should be minimum of 18 inches or 2ft, by 18inches or 2ft by 36 inches high, Minimum.

TRUTH: Gliders need vet care. Get one initial and annually. In most cases “ if the sugar gliders become sick, its is because of a poorly-designed outdated diet and or poor care.

NEVER BUY FROM A FLEA MARKET, TRADING VILLAGE, FAIR, PET STORE OR EXPOS.
These people sell joeys that are too young, and sickly. Pulled from the mommy at age 5 weeks, when gliders should not be pulled until 8 weeks of age.

BEWARE: OF WEBSITES THAT SAY THEY ARE VETERINARIAN ENDORSED. If, the website is endorsed, you will see the names of the veterinarians, on the website.
