Cages and accessories
The bigger the cage the better. Taller is better than wider, so they can jump all around their environment.
Size of cage should be 24"x18"x36" minimum.
Fleece Pouches ( at least 2 in cage at same time. Put a small fleece blanket in pouch to keep them from digging in pouch, which can cause frays, thus nails can become entangled in them, causing harm to your glider.
Fleece seems to be material of choice. It does not fray as bad as other materials. It washes well. Air dry the pouches to have them last longer.
Toys for parrots, cats ( without catnip ) ( it is toxic to gliders)
Ropes , Braided fleece,
Plastic Chains, Baby rings,
Barrel of monkeys or the bunnies, ( they love these. I hang them up in top of cage, and they work really hard to pull them down.)
I place plastic leaves in cage and on outside. They will pull leaves off and put in their pouch
Water bottle (I use the one with the duck floatie inside)
Branches, perches, or shelving( chinchilla shelving ) , these are made for cages, and attach with wing nuts.
Cleaning schedule
Cage: clean every two weeks thoroughly ( take everything out and clean them
Pouches: Have enough to switch out, so the others can be washed. Do this weekly. ( check your pouches several times a week or more for loose threads, or area where your glider's nails could become entangled, and get hurt or worse, loose a limb0.
Wheel: once a week unless you see see visible soiling, then twice a week
Water bottles , since you use filtered water, change out water every other day, and wash bottle weekly soapy water with a little bleach, for 10 minutes. It only takes 10 minutes for the bleach to kill all bacteria. ( use bottle brush to get in the inside of bottle. ) Rinse very well.
Wash all toys, in soapy water, with a little bit of bleach. Let it set 10 minutes, rinse very well, and let dry. Especially the wood.
I have many extra items, so I can switch out easily, this way, I don't have to wait for anything to dry.
Crock dishes: Clean every day Take out all the food in am except the staple food.
